British Berkefeld 8.5L Portable Benchtop Gravity Water Filter
If you are looking for the best water filter for a home in New Zealand or Australia that removes microplastics, chlorine, and heavy metals without needing a plumber, the British Berkefeld 8.5L Portable Benchtop Gravity Water Filter is your definitive solution.
As the official Doulton distributor in NZ, we provide proven, premium water filtration systems that deliver exactly what is promised on the label.
Why Choose the British Berkefeld 8.5L System?
When it comes to your health, your water filter should never be a guessing game. Many generic filters come with unsupported claims, but British Berkefeld systems are backed by rigorous testing and independent certifications, including NSF and WRAS.
Consider this fundamental truth: if you don’t use a high-quality water filter, your body becomes the filter. Investing in a premium gravity water filter supports your body’s natural detoxification, improves mental clarity, and encourages you to drink more water, which directly assists with weight management.
Beyond the personal health benefits, this system is a smart financial move. Instead of buying expensive single-use plastic bottles, you can generate clean, great-tasting water for just a few cents per litre. You save money while actively protecting the environment from plastic waste.
Key Product Benefits
Proven Contaminant Removal: Effectively targets and eliminates PFAS, microplastics, chlorine, organic chemicals, pharmaceutical drug residues, and heavy metals while keeping beneficial, essential minerals intact.

Complete Independence: Requires zero plumbing, zero electricity, and zero water pressure. It is entirely gravity-fed.
- No Leaching Design: Unlike other brands, the filter cartridges are suspended above the filtered water chamber rather than submerged, completely removing the risk of chemical leaching.
Risk-Free Investment: Enjoy absolute peace of mind with our 30-day money-back guarantee.
Choose Your Cartridge Setup
This system is completely customisable based on your specific needs. You can choose between two premium 7-inch ceramic and carbon-based cartridges:
1. Doulton Ultra Fluoride Filter Cartridge (Model 8B76)
Best For: Removal of fluoride and a wide range of contaminants.
Target Contaminants: Fluoride, microplastics, heavy metals (lead, arsenic), pesticides, chlorine, pharmaceutical drugs, bacteria (E. coli), and cysts (Giardia).
Certification: Certified by NSF and WRAS (2204074).
2. Doulton Ultra Sterasyl Filter Cartridge (Model 8674)
Best For: Removal of a wide range of contaminants and fluoride removal is not required.
Target Contaminants: Forever chemicals (PFAS), microplastics, heavy metals (lead), pesticides, chlorine, pharmaceutical drugs, bacteria (E. coli), and cysts (Giardia).
Certification: Certified by NSF (Standards 42, 53, 372, 401) and WRAS (2204074).
Important Note: Do not mix Ultra Sterasyl and Ultra Fluoride cartridges in the same system, as this reduces filtration performance.

Quick Start Care & Maintenance Guide
How to Flush New Filter Cartridges
Install your selected cartridges into the upper chamber of the stainless steel housing.
Fill the top container with water, let it filter completely through to the bottom chamber and discard the filtered water run.
Repeat this process two more times (this process can take up to 48 hours).
Remove the cartridges, clean the stainless steel chambers with mild dish soap and a soft cloth, rinse, and dry.
- Install the cartridges into the upper chamber and your system is ready.
How to Clean Filter Cartridges
If your water flow slows down over time due to heavy sediment, simply hold the threaded stem of the cartridge, place it under cold running water, and scrub the ceramic surface with the abrasive side of a clean scourer sponge. Ensure no raw water enters the threaded plastic stem. Lay the cartridge on its side until you are ready to reassemble the unit.
When to Replace Filters
The manufacturer recommends replacing the cartridges based on the volume used:
2 Cartridges running simultaneously: Replace every 12 months (or 6 months per individual cartridge lifespan).
3 Cartridges running simultaneously: Replace every 18 months.
4 Cartridges running simultaneously: Replace every 24 months.

I’ve had this almost two weeks now and I’m very pleased with it – looks great, the stainless steel is polished well and of high quality, the plastic tap is good enough if you handle it sensibly but if you’re a bit heavy handed or prone to breaking things you might do better to replace it with the metal version. I did re-tighten the tap twice to get the best non-drip fit (I didn’t want to over-tighten it at first) and now its perfectly water tight.
It’s great to be able to pour trustworthy clean water, the taste is better than our chlorinated chalky ‘east anglian’ tap water and the kettle will appreciate not scaling up. I usually find plain tap water a bit nauseating and flat, but this water is good and I’m able to drink a whole cup of it now.
Two of us seem to use 5 Litres (a gallon) of water for drinks per day, so I top it up before bed for the next day. Nice not to be using plastic bottles, with the danger of consuming a lot of micro plastics over time. I dithered for a week before buying this and now I’m so glad I did.
I’ll definitely recommend this to relatives when they visit and try out our water.
